This book design project came to live after a two weeks study trip to Paris. It involved gathering Images, creating illustrations and writing short texts in french about the exiled swamps of Paris.
“Éxile” is filled with myths about swamps and creatures luring in them. My idea was to create an unsettling feeling but also raise curiosity by merging typography and the fascinating swamp-like scenery. The thick pages and the black hardcover underline that feeling.
The whole layout is built as a zoom in, telling the tales of old legends, and a zoom out, showcasing the exiled swamp in Paris.
The dark areas and the lines are used as caging elements, locking the swamp away from Paris.
I work with sketches and storyboards when approaching a new project. Planning the layout and creating a theme for each new challenge is important to me.
